According to Rajesh Sahay, Global Head of HR, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, culture simply defined is how things are done, our organization values shape our culture and guides all our actions.
What are the steps you take as a leader to embrace innovative disruption?
For me what works is to keep the curiosity quotient high. It helps me to keep a tab on what is happening around and what can I adopt quickly. Implementation of digital health care programs or app based financial assistance programs are some of the disruptive approaches which we have taken on employee services.
What are the strategies you employ to upskill your workforce?
The key is to make them aware that there is a need to change/upgrade and most importantly question the status quo. Once we identify that this is the strategic direction, we will make investments and allow the team to make mistakes, learn and move on. Some examples of the rapid changes which the team had to adopt was digital marketing. Even if you are an ace marketer handling of the new age marketing was a different ball game. Advent of e-commerce as a new distribution channel required a skill set and the team scaled up to meet the demand.
How do you win at talent management?
What has worked for us is to be transparent and consistent over the period of time prospective candidates understands clearly what does Wipro consumer care stands for and what does it take to be successful in Wipro? We let the prospect know what is in it for you. We state our expectations clearly and have a clearly defined workforce DNA wherein we say that a cultural fit is one who can work in an unstructured environment. We like people who raise their hand.
What role do you think culture plays in increasing efficiency at work?
A very important role. Culture simply defined is how things are done, our organization values shape our culture and guides all our actions. We keep pushing our people to answer a simple question- can I be better than the last time? This is to reinforce the stated value of being passionate about client success.
What role do you think technology plays in talent management? How can technology bring about a change in the talent management lifecycle?
In today’s world technology is an integral part of our life and is a great leveler. Technology has helped in universal access of information- sophisticated analytics to aid decision making and most importantly the service delivery has taken a quantum jump. It is now more real time and accurate and person independent. We encourage people to adopt the new age technology for them to be productive and more importantly be relevant in a rapidly changing world.
